Happy Pride Month! Sixteen years ago, we published a piece by George Chauncey ’77, ’89PhD, about the evolution and acceptance of LGBTQ culture at Yale, along with four short essays by LGBTQ alums about their time at Yale. The articles—and particularly the cover's reference to Yale's reputation as the "gay Ivy”—brought an enormous reaction from readers, both positive and negative. (A talented group of alums wrote and performed a musical based on the letters to the editor we received.)
