On Monday, British artist Richard Long approached a freestanding red wall in the entrance court of the Yale Center for British Art and started sweeping wet clay across the upper part of the wall with his right hand. Within an hour or so, he had created Gravity, a site-specific work for YCBA that will be on display through July 11. Long (at center in photo, with YCBA director Martina Droth) says that “I make the top half of the image, and nature and gravity make the bottom half.”
