Throwback Thursday: teachers lounge

Our April 1954 cover featured the then-new faculty meeting room in Connecticut Hall. Yale's oldest building, which previously was used as a residence hall, had been gutted and rebuilt inside with study space, seminar rooms, and suites for visiting scholars. At the time, the two-story-high meeting room could hold the entire Yale College ladder faculty of 187 people; today there are 740 ladder faculty.
