The visage of former Yale president A. Bartlett Giamatti ’60, ’64PhD, now presides over the game room of Saybrook College, where Giamatti lived as an undergraduate. The silkscreened image was made by Norman Dolph ’60, Giamatti's friend and fellow Saybrugian, in 1989. Dolph was an electrical engineer at Yale and an artist later in life, but he is best known for his career in the music business. He helped to bring the seminal album The Velvet Underground and Nico into being, and he wrote a number of songs, including the 1974 top-ten hit "Life is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)." Dolph died in 2022; his wife Eve gave the Giamatti portrait to Yale. |
