On Saturday, New Haven observed Powder House Day, the annual reenactment of a chapter in the town's Revolutionary history. When news of the battles at Lexington and Concord reached New Haven April 1775, the local militia was determined to go to Massachusetts and join the fight. The group's leader, one Benedict Arnold, went to the town selectmen to demand the keys to the powder house. As depicted in the annual reenactment, the cautiously reluctant selectmen eventually yielded to an increasingly belligerent Arnold.
