Throwback Thursday: keys to the city

Twenty-five years ago, in our May 2001 issue, we profiled Alexander Garvin ’62, ’67MArch (1941–2021), an urban planner and author who taught the popular Yale College course Introduction to the Study of the City for more than 50 years. The article quotes architecture critic Paul Rudolph ’72: "The most important thing Alex Garvin did—and still does—is explain the realities of the world in a way that is not cynical, but as passionate and as full of belief as any aesthetician."
