Back in December 1968, we profiled a Yale junior who, on the tail end of the folk music boom, styled himself as a conservative folksinger. "I sing to show that conservatives can swing," Anthony Dolan ’70 told the magazine. He had performed at Goldwater rallies and at private gatherings for William F. Buckley Jr. ’50, who wrote the liner notes for his album. Dolan, who died in March of this year, hung on to his conservative convictions: A speechwriter for Ronald Reagan, he wrote the 1983 speech in which Reagan famously referred to the Soviet Union as an "evil empire." |
