Throwback Thursday: the end and the beginningWe got a happy surprise in the mail recently from Douglas Waldron ’82, a fourth-generation alum: copies of the final issue of our predecessor, the Yale Alumni Weekly (June 4, 1937) and the first issue of the Yale Alumni Magazine (October 15, 1937). The former features a view of the Sterling Divinity Quadrangle, the later a photo of newly inaugurated president Charles Seymour ’08. We have bound issues of our entire run since 1891, but we didn't have unbound copies of these landmark issues. The publication was reorganized in 1937 after operating at a loss for several years. Since the new magazine would be published fortnightly (except during football season, when it would appear every week), postal authorities decreed that the name would have to change, giving us the chance to replace the acronym YAW with the tuberous YAM.
