Throwback Thursday: mighty mouse

Twenty-five years ago, in our March 2000 issue, Marc Wortman reported on research being done at Yale with transgenic mice. In 1980, the late Yale biology professor Frank Ruddle, who coined the term "transgenic," was the first to successfully implant a human gene into a mouse. The technique became an invaluable tool for understanding the function of human genes.
