Professor named dean of Law School

Cristina M. Rodríguez ’95, ’00JD, began her term as Sol and Lillian Goldman Dean and Professor of Law on February 1. Yale University president Maurie McInnis ’96PhD announced Rodríguez’s selection in December. Rodríguez previously served as the deputy dean of the Law School, where her scholarship and teaching center on constitutional law and theory, administrative law and process, and immigration law and policy. “Yale Law School stands apart for its intellectual vibrancy, its commitment to the pursuit of ideas through rigorous scholarship and open dialogue, the quality and ambition of its student body, and its dedication to public service,” Rodríguez said. Professor delivers inaugural Meyer Lecture

Professor David N. Schleicher delivered his inaugural lecture as Walter E. Meyer Professor of Property and Urban Law on October 27. Schleicher’s lecture, titled “Broken Machines: Law and the Challenge of Making Big Cities Work,” argued that major American cities feature a “wide distance in the quality of services provided by the public and private sector.” Schleicher has taught at the Law School since 2015 and is an expert in local government law, land use, federalism, state and local finance, and urban development.

Former White House official joins leadership program

Jon Finer ’09JD has joined the Tsai Leadership Program as a senior distinguished fellow in residence. He served as President Joe Biden’s principal deputy national security advisor from 2021 to 2025 and received the National Security Medal. Prior to that, Finer was global head of geopolitical and policy affairs at Warburg Pincus LLC; chief of staff and director of policy planning at the US Department of State; and worked in the White House during President Barack Obama’s first term. As a Law School student, he cofounded the International Refugee Assistance Project.
