In Remembrance: Irving Brinton Holley Jr. ’47PhD Died on August 12 2013

Irving Brinton Holley Jr., distinguished professor emeritus of history at Duke University and major general, US Air Force (ret.), died August 12, 2013, in Durham, North Carolina. He was 94 years old.

Holley completed his PhD at Yale in 1947, receiving the Townshend Prize for Best Dissertation. He taught at Duke University until age 92, despite officially retiring in 1989, making him both the oldest and longest-serving professor in Duke’s history.
