In Remembrance: Arthur G. Merriman Jr. ’52 Died on August 2 2023

Arthur (Art) Merriman Jr. died on August 2, 2023, in Cleveland, Ohio. After Yale he served as an aviator with the US Navy, and then in 1960 founded Merriman Construction Company, which developed several residential communities and many fine custom homes over the years.

Art's strong sense of community made him generous with his time. He served on the boards of Laurel School, Habitat for Humanity, and Beech Brook; and was on the vestry and acted as senior warden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where he was a lifelong member of the congregation. He belonged to the Cleveland Racquet Club and enjoyed playing tennis and bridge there. Besides his caring nature, generous heart, and keen intelligence, he had a great sense of humor which made for many gatherings full of laughter.

He is survived by his wife, Ronnie; his children: Lisle, Art (Jennifer), Charles (Sarah), and Amy Herrick (Peter); his sister Frederika; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
