Light & VerityThe gospel according to YaleA new vocal ensemble will focus on Black sacred music. The Institute of Sacred Music has been training church musicians for more than 50 years, and the local community has long enjoyed performances by ISM-sponsored choirs: the Yale Schola Cantorum, the Yale Camerata, the Yale Consort, and the Yale Voxtet. This fall, they are joined by the Yale Jubilee Chorale, a project of the institute’s Music and the Black Church program focusing on Black sacred music. Led by Jeffrey Allen Murdock (center, with bow tie), a professor in the practice of sacred music, the chorale had its first rehearsals in September. The 24 student singers come from a wide range of Yale schools and disciplines.
