Scene on CampusApizza partyNew Haven assembles a crowd of eaters to break a world record. On September 12, at New Haven’s annual Apizza Feast on the Green, the Elm City set a record for the world’s largest pizza party. A total of 4,525 people, many from the Yale community, helped steal bragging rights from Tulsa, Oklahoma, which set the previous record in 2023 with 3,357 partiers. To get certified by Guinness World Records, you have to throw the kind of party only an auditor could love: Groups of 100 people at a time were herded into one of six fenced enclosures, where they were required to stay for 15 minutes, eat two slices served up by Big Green Truck Pizza, and drink a small bottle of water, all under the watchful eye of a roving Guinness official. If that doesn’t sound like your kind of party, there was also plenty of apizza available on College Street from more than a dozen local pizzerias, including Sally’s and Frank Pepe.
