Yale College offered admission to 2,308 students for the Class of 2029, 4.6 percent of the 50,228 applicants. The number admitted was slightly larger than last year’s 2,146, since the college intends to expand the class size by 100 students beginning this fall. The admitted students come from all 50 states and from 65 countries.
The Law School put a staff member on administrative leave in March after allegations surfaced that she was a member of an organization tied to Palestinian terrorism. Helyeh Doutaghi had been an associate research scholar and deputy director of the Law and Political Economy Project since 2023. She was later fired, a Law School spokesman said in a statement, because she refused to cooperate with the school’s investigation. “I am a scholar,” Doutaghi told The New York Times. “I am not a member of any organization that would constitute a violation of US law.” Her contract had been set to expire in April.
The term bill for a year in Yale College next year will be $90,550, a 3.9 percent increase over last year. The term bill includes tuition, housing, and meals. It should be noted as always that fewer than half of undergraduates’ families pay the full fare: 55 percent receive some financial aid, and 21 percent of the current first-years’ families pay nothing.
Yale’s net greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by 28 percent since 2015, according to the university’s sustainability progress report for 2024. The campus grew by 14 percent during the same period. The net emissions figure includes carbon offsets purchased by the university. Yale’s goal is to achieve net zero emissions by 2035 and zero actual carbon emissions by 2050.
Say goodbye to English 125. Because some departments are running out of three-digit numbers for courses in Yale College and the Graduate School, the registrar’s office has implemented a new four-digit system for numbering courses beginning this fall. So 125, the time-honored survey of English poetry, will now be known as English 1025. (Of course, some alumni will remember taking it when it was called English 25.)
