Faculty and students perform at festival
In March, Paul Watkins, the Polak Family Professor in the Practice of Cello, and YSM students—performing as the Vista Quartet—joined the award-winning Elmore String Quartet for a special collaboration at the Guildhall Chamber Music Festival. Together, the ensembles performed Mendelssohn’s String Octet, marking the beginning of a new educational and performance partnership.
New Schola Cantorum conductor debuts
In her first performance with Yale Schola Cantorum since assuming the role of principal conductor in January 2026, Grete Pedersen led a program on March 5 centered on the theme of new beginnings, featuring works by Schubert, Poulenc, and Mahler.
Collaboration showcases rock opera
In collaboration with Yale Ventures’ Cultural Innovation Lab and Yale Ventures’ inaugural artist-in-residence James Rhee, YSM students and alumni hosted a showcase of Rhee’s Red Helicopter: An American Rock Opera. Inspired by his bestselling book, the work reflects Rhee’s multifaceted career—including his leadership as former CEO of Ashley Stewart—and highlights the creative intersections fostered through the partnership.
