Urban design awards

The clinic Housing Connecticut: Designing Healthy and Sustainable Neighborhoods—taught through the Yale Urban Design Workshop by faculty from the School of Architecture, the Law School, and the School of Management—received the Housing Design Education Award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and the American Institute of Architects. The course pairs interdisciplinary teams of students with Connecticut-based nonprofit housing developers. The clinic has also been recognized by the American Planning Association’s Connecticut chapter.

Drawing exhibition

An exhibition of drawings by Professor Emeritus Alec Purves ’58, ’65MArch, Just Looking, will be on view at the Yale Architecture Gallery from May 15 to July 6. Purves, who has taught at Yale since 1976, is an artist in addition to his experience as an architect. He has led the school’s summer drawing program in Rome and also served as acting dean in 1992. His course, Introduction to Architecture, has been influential for generations of Yale undergraduate architecture majors. An opening event for the exhibition is planned for May 15.
