Amid the encomiums to outgoing Yale president Richard Levin ’74PhD, one statistic caught our eye: Levin has conferred nearly 25 percent of the 243,772 undergraduate and graduate degrees awarded in Yale’s 312-year history. That is due in part to Levin’s longevity, but also to Yale’s explosive growth in recent decades. At left you’ll see the length of service and number of degrees conferred for each of Yale’s 22 presidents and rectors.
