This year's Class Day speaker: Cory Booker

It's not too often that Yale seniors get to hear from a superhero on Class Day. This year's speaker, Cory Booker ’97JD, nearly fits the bill.

Booker, who is mayor of Newark, New Jersey, gets more national attention than your average 1,000 municipal CEOS combined. Just last month he rescued a freezing dog, burnishing the superhero image that he established last April when he saved a woman from a burning building.

Booker was already a hero to the charter-school movement and to those who feel his fellow Democrats are too critical of Wall Street. In his spare time, he has filed papers to run for US Senate in 2014. Yale Class Day is May 19.
