Yale’s most adorable new laboratory, the Canine Cognition Center, opened in December. Its director, psychology professor Laurie Santos—also an expert on primates—recruits local pets for research on what dogs know and how they learn from people. Benjamin, owned by Calhoun College dean April Ruiz ’05, is shown here having just retrieved a tennis ball from one of two buckets by following nonverbal cues from Santos.
