Playwriting student honored

The honor comes with a $25,000 prize for Ferrentino and $50,000 for the Roundabout Theatre Company, which will produce the world premiere of the play as part of its Roundabout Underground series this coming fall.

OBIE Award winner returns to Yale Rep

Playwright Danai Gurira, perhaps best known to audiences for her role as Michonne on AMC’s The Walking Dead, returned to Yale Rep this winter for the world premiere of Familiar, commissioned by Yale Rep and supported by Yale’s Binger Center for New Theatre. Her previous plays include the OBIE Award–winning In the Continuum which she cowrote and performed with Nikkole Salter, seen at Yale Rep in 2007; and Eclipsed, which received the Outstanding Production of a Play award from the Connecticut Critics Circle following its Yale Rep run in 2009. Familiar, which ran January 30–February 21 at Yale Rep, will be produced at Playwrights Horizons in New York next season, directed by Rebecca Taichman ’00MFA.
