Besides being a symphony hall and the ceremonial heart of Yale,
Woolsey Hall is itself part of the instrument that is the Newberry Organ.
Although only a few pipes and the organ console are visible to the
concertgoer, the organ occupies a large space behind the stage—and
below the floor at the back of the hall, where pipes are installed to
create an echo effect.
