Have
frosting, will travel
May/June 2009

Equipped
with an old bakery van and a business plan aimed squarely at the seven-year-old
inside every New Haven resident, Todd and Marsha Rowe have trained fans to line
up on city sidewalks waiting for their cupcake truck to appear. (A blog,
http://fooddriven.blogspot.com, keeps patrons informed.) Opening a business in
a recession is always risky, but the Rowes say that at two dollars, a cupcake
is an affordable indulgence. "To see a businessperson come from a meeting or a
student from working on a thesis and get this big grin on their face -- that's
what we love," says Marsha Rowe. |
