A poem Louise wrote to Eugene O'Neill. Louise and her husband, Jack Reed, joined a theater group in 1916 that later became the Provincetown Players; it was with this group, often credited with creating modern American drama, that O'Neill developed as a playwright.
Louise and Jack wrote plays for the group and performed in them. The couple believed in free love -- so much so that they were embarrassed about telling their friends that they had married -- and their frequent affairs included Jack's with Edna St. Vincent Millay and Louise's with O'Neill. Louise's papers at Yale include several poems and love letters that O'Neill wrote for her. |
