Bill Brandt:
A Retrospective
Photographer Bill Brandt
(1904-1983) considered photography a medium in which "everything
is allowed and everything should be tried." Accordingly, his career
was marked by numerous stylistic changes, from photojournalism to
high-contrast nudes, to revealing portraits, to experiments in Surrealism.
Known throughout the world for his exceptional range and distinctive
vision, Brandt created more memorable images than any other British
photographer of the 20th century.
A display of 155 vintage
gelatin silver prints from London's Bill Brandt Archive spans the
artist's career of more than 50 years, and defines his preeminence
in the field of photography.
