Senior Jen Ivers has won the right to represent Timothy Dwight College in this year’s “Mr. Yale” talent show.
A fencer from Illinois who prefers men’s clothing, Ivers told the Yale Daily News that she doesn’t identify as male, female, or transgender, and that she entered the undergrad competition not to make a statement but because it sounded fun. “It’s not really a male beauty pageant,” she says. “It’s a male ridiculousness pageant.”
Nonetheless, she’d like the contest to become gender-neutral: “I was thinking it should be called Captain Yale instead.”
