From jail to Yale

Charles S. DuttonTV viewers might remember Charles S. Dutton ’83CDR (that’s a Certificate of Drama, for the uninitiated) as the Emmy-winning star of the early-’90s show Roc. New Haveners watched him as Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman at the Yale Rep last spring. Moviegoers can see him in the remake of Fame.

But you probably haven’t heard (neither had we — thanks, Barb!) about Dutton’s autobiographical project: a one-man show called From Jail to Yale . . . Serving Time on Stage. The show, which Dutton performs at fundraising events, tells the story of how he fell in love with plays while serving more than seven years for manslaughter, then got out of prison and into the Yale School of Drama.
