About the Yale Alumni Magazine
Since its founding in 1891, the Yale Alumni Magazine has played the unusual and demanding role of a publication that is simultaneously separate from and dedicated to a single university. Published by a nonprofit (Yale Alumni Publications, Inc.) separate from Yale, the Yale Alumni Magazine has reported on the university to its graduates in good times and bad, creating a unique record of Yale history.
The magazine’s Statement of Purpose directs it to serve as
“a principal means of communication among alumni, the Yale University community, and others interested in Yale. A defining characteristic of the magazine is its editorial independence. … The magazine should evoke Yale as it was in the past, portray Yale in all its complexity today, and thoughtfully probe the opportunities and challenges confronting Yale in the future.”
